Bonus Comics
The Satellite
From December 2005 through April 2007 I was the comic strip artist at the Mohawk College School Paper The Satellite. Although I made a grand total of zero dollars doing Satellite strips, it was a lot of fun and let me put out strips that didn't have anything to do with Mike's Stupid Comics and could contain pop culture references. By accident I became a recurring character in this strip too. I swear. Accident. Cameos from Hannah, Rob, Kris (who at the time was my real life co host at the campus radio station), Tanya & John from Megalomanicon and the actual editorial staff of the paper. Apparently the "draw me into the comic!" line carries over into the semi professional world as well. Some of my favorite strips are in this archive.

Created for a school project back in 2001, Megalomaniacon has always been a favorite character of mine, and of many readers. Megalomaniacon is a space alien (although he's commonly mistaken for a robot. Must be the design. That's supposed to be a spacesuit people) Anyway, the title character is a super villain who lives in a college dorm with two students who somehow think he's a foreign exchange student. How they screw that up who knows. Hillarity ensues when the would be world conqueror begins to learn about the odd customs of earthlings, and in some cases teaches us about some of his own.

To celebrate the first full year of strips on the site (you may remember this strip which makes reference to it being one year. it was actually one year of the site, not the comic) I made a retrospective of my art career to that point hosted by the Bagel Bot from Megalomaniacon. *shrug* I thought it was interesting. Apparently I was the only one. Five pages went up on June 23 2004.

The comic you read almost never existed. MSC was originally a practice comic for Webmastas, a comic I drew and Trevor (the site designer) wrote. In the end Trevor dropped out because he just didn't have the time. I took the style I was saving for that comic and applied it to this one oh, about here. For the 2nd anniversary, I decided to show what could have been, posting the strips based on the scripts I still had from the original brainstorming sessions with Trevor. Four strips went live on the site June 23 2005.

Ah the Battle Royale. A personal favorite. Based on a comic from high school called "The Mike Battle Royale" in which all the different versions of me I'd drawn had a brawl, this non canon short story featured Mike drawn in the style before "Teh Supah Change" fighting then current Mike style (affectionately known as "Mullet Mike") The Dragonball Z style antics of the characters is a throwback to how those old stories I wrote were. Filled with sly winks to those few who had been reading since high school. All ten pages (eleven with cover) went up June 23 2006.

2007 was a bad year for MSC. I was in a funk. School was over and I was working two jobs I was unhappy doing. It was very unfulfilling and it got me down. So down, I updated a record low 27 times in a year (story specific comics, there was like 10 more filler comics). I missed my 4th year anniversary comic and felt terrible. The tradition was broken. I felt I had to make it up to the loyal readers that stuck through the low points, and so I brought on this holiday themed non canon arc about Hannah shopping for the perfect X-mas gift for Mike (who actually only appears on the last page). The theme is Castlevania, since I was (and am still) into old school gaming at the time. Fun Fact: based on this comic someone actually bought me Castlevania 3, which I in reality had been searching for. This updated daily from Dec 10 to Dec 25 2007.

If 2007 was a bad year don't even get me started on 2008. The Record low of the previous year would be beaten with only 23 updates (but then that'd be beaten in 2009 with a shameful total of 9 updates) 2008 consisted of me getting a job in my actual field of study from school and setting foot in the real world. I did do a single Page to celebrate 5 years os MSC, but nothing like the anniversary specials of years past. I decided to do another Holiday special. Bringing back the always popular character Megalomaniacon to help Mike save Christmas. After Megalomaniacon kills Santa actually... This updated daily from Dec 10 to Dec 25 2008.
